Candidates will usually have:
- achieved grade C or above in at least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English, maths and a science
- a minimum of 240 UCAS points or existing relevant level 3 qualifications
- What apprentices will learn
- health, safety, regulatory and environmental requirements
- analysing engineering and scientific problems using mathematical, engineering and scientific tools
- applying science or engineering knowledge to decommissioning technology
- observing, recording and drawing conclusions from data and experimental evidence
- design processes that meet nuclear industry standards
- root cause analysis and 'learning from experience' processes
- specify, plan, manage, carry out and report on nuclear projects
- technology, safety and economics of nuclear fuels and the nuclear fuel cycle
A bachelor (honours) degree at level 6, accredited by the constituent bodies of the Engineering/Science Council.
Before taking their end-point assessment, apprentices must achieve level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C).
- Professional registration
Successful apprentices will be able to apply for professional registration as an incorporated engineer (IEng) or registered scientist (RSci) and membership of a professional institute.
