Candidates will usually have GCSEs at grade A* to C (or equivalent) - including English, ICT, maths and a relevant science.

What apprentices will learn
  • papermaking principles and processes - including pulping, drying, reeling, coating, basic maintenance and quality control testing
  • using specialist tools and equipment - including beaters, debarkers, de-inkers, paper machines, pulpers and refiners
  • basic engineering maintenance - including changing filters, fitting parts and lubrication
  • health and safety practices and environmental regulations
Qualifications
  • level 2 NVQ diploma in performing engineering operations (or equivalent)

Before taking their end-point assessment apprentices must:

  • achieve level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C)
